Generation What? Asia-Pacific

GENERATION WHAT? ASIA-PACIFIC

ABU is partnering with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Upian and Yami 2, the founders of “Generation What? Europe”, to launch this youth-oriented, global trans-media project in Asia-Pacific.

Following the success of “Generation What? Europe”, “Generation What? Asia-Pacific” will be the biggest trans-media, transnational campaign in history launching in countries across Asia-Pacific in 2018.

Together with our partners, we have introduced the project at ABU General Assembly in Bali, Indonesia in October 2016 and the Asian Side of Doc in Bangkok, Thailand in November 2016, and we are very pleased to note that the response generated was very positive. And now, we are honored to invite you to join “Generation What? Asia-Pacific” and be part of this exciting global initiative.

It is estimated that more than 60 per cent of world’s youth live in Asia and the impact a project of this magnitude will create would be astounding, especially when it offers a unique platform for young people to speak their minds and allow broadcasters to connect with a generation that has abandoned them for social networks.

To that extent, Generation What? helps broadcasters to re-connect with young people, develop their online presence and programming, and their capacity to launch trans-media or new media campaigns. New content, new tools, and new ways of producing content. Simultaneously, it will bring young people from around the world together in a way never before seen, encouraging intercultural and interfaith dialogue for peace and collecting much-needed attitudinal data that the United Nations will utilize in order to create a better world for them.

In a nutshell, Generation What? project consists of two main components: (1) the website which hosts the online questionnaire and online data and (2) TV documentaries based on central themes of the questionnaire. In addition to these, Generation What? is to be turned into a true broadcasting event on both TV and Radio including TV and Radio shows, short segments within TV and Radio programs, debates and advertising campaigns on TV and Radio.

By joining this project, you will be instrumental in launching the “Generation What? Asia-Pacific” campaign and making it a huge success across the region. Moreover, it will send a strong signal to the global broadcasting industry that a new actor with strong ambitions is ready to ascend to the top of the digital economy and the new media world.
