Channel NewsAsia has lined up a series of programmes to present an overview of the achievements and challenges faced in 2016, together with the expectations that countries have for 2017.

The Year Ahead 2017 (4-part series)

Ep 1: The Year Ahead – US/Europe
A new president for the United States, after a highly divisive election campaign.  Will Donald Trump shake up the world order for better or worse?  Shockwaves are sent across the Atlantic as a new leader emerged in Britain after it voted to leave the European Union.  The world awaits Prime Minister Theresa May to trigger the Brexit process, even as the fallout is set to continue in 2017.

Ep 2: The Year Ahead – East Asia
The new US administration is expected to trigger adjustments in all the East Asian capitals.  From politics to economics, governments will be watching incoming President Trump’s every move, as they adapt their policies.  The new President’s attitude will also shape the interaction among the governments, while uncertainties over the global economy is likely to push the Asia-Pacific towards closer cooperation.

Ep 3: The Year Ahead – Southeast Asia
Terrorism, on the rise in the region.  The dispute in the South China Sea, leading to a rebalancing of the major powers.  Elsewhere in the region, new governments are leading change.  “The Year Ahead 2017: Southeast Asia” looks at how developments this year will shape the region in the year to come.

Ep 4: The Year Ahead – Singapore
This looks at the future challenges as well as the future opportunities in store for Singapore, in light of the major developments in 2016.  What should be done to prepare Singaporeans for future jobs, greener environment and a car-lite society?

All these programmes will be aired from Friday 30 December 2016 to Sunday 1 January 2017. The programmes also include World Review 2016  and Singapore Review 2016 . Expert panelists share their insights in these documentaries.
