ABU Members Gear Up to Celebrate World Radio Day 2017

On 13 February 2017, World Radio Day will be celebrated all over the globe. With the theme “Radio is You”, this year UNESCO focuses on encouraging radio stations around the world to have the tools to be the best radio stations they can be.

ABU invites its radio members to celebrate this dynamic and vibrant medium by listing the events they have scheduled to mark #WorldRadioDay at www.worldradioday.org to shine the spotlight on their station on the global stage.

Several ABU radio members are all set to ring in World Radio Day in style. Malaysia’s iM4U fm will be going on air 80 metres up in the clouds as they broadcast in a moving hot air balloon to give their listeners a unique and an unforgettable experience.

In conjunction with World Radio Day 2017, iM4U fm will also engage with their listeners through and on ground event.

Radio is not only the mass media reaching the widest audience in the world today, it is also recognised as a powerful communication tool and a low cost medium. Without a doubt, radio is still the most dynamic, reactive and engaging medium there is, adapting to 21st century changes and offering new ways to interact and participate.

13 February is marked as World Radio Day to celebrate radio as a medium; to improve international cooperation between broadcasters, and to encourage major networks and community radio alike to promote access to information, freedom of expression and gender equality over the airwaves.

World Radio Day is now in its 6th year.
