IRIB – Iran issued IPTV permits to five companies

Internet Protocol Television Services (IPTV) permits have been issued to five companies by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).

The list of the five companies includes Irancell (mobile operator), Aseman (a company owned by the Setade Ejraiye Farmane Emam), Iran Electronic Publication (electronic publication company affiliated to the Islamic Development Organisation), Baran Telecom (a consortium formed by Samsung and two IT companies Fanap ICT Company and Arya Hamrah) and Tarashe Sabz (a consortium established by merging several unnamed local Internet service providers).

The new Head of IRIB, Mr Abdolali Askari, has reformed the institution and a new format for IPTV deals is in the making. On the other hand, Mr Askari, said: “Subscribers will now have access to a wide range of media uploaded by the companies or the IRIB. The launch of IPTV services will boost online publication of original content”.

It is to be noted that the services will complement the programs of IRIB being delivered through traditional terrestrial and satellite signal.
