PEMRA to boost digital broadcasting in Pakistan

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) is committed to offer access to digital services in underserved areas of the country. This will be part of the digitalisation plan and PEMRA also revealed about building up its own Universal Service Fund (USF).

According to the Chairman of PEMRA, Absar Alam, the switch from analogue to digitalisation would impact positively on the broadcasting services in Pakistan. Further, with the proposed structure, up to 250 channels will be monitored with the development of software. To recall, till date, only 50 channels are being monitored out of the 107 TV channels that are operational.
