ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium Kicks Off in Kuala Lumpur

The 13th edition of the Digital Broadcasting Symposium (DBS) opened this morning at the Royale Chulan Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. More than 800 delegates coming from at least 60 countries will be attending the four-day event.

In his message, the ABU Secretary-General, Dr Javad Mottaghi pointed out that “With the theme Digitise, Digitalise and Dominate, the symposium will attempt to emphasise the importance of embracing digital technologies and solutions”.

DBS 2017 like every year also comprises an exhibition where various organisations in the broadcast industry will showcase their latest products and services.  This year 47 exhibitors representing 60 organisations are participating in the exhibition which will be officially opened tomorrow.

DTT Network, New Media and Digital Radio were on the agenda today. In his introduction on ‘How to set up a DTT network”, Dr Peter Siebert, Executive Director, DVB Project Office underlined that a good planning is imperative before setting up a DTT network. The other six speakers in this session spoke about the functioning of transmitters, Single Frequency  and Multiple Frequency Networks coverages, Encoding and Multiplexing as well as others issues related to DVB T2 gateways.

A full day New Media Masterclass also took place with the theme: Transmedia Storytelling and Audience Engagement.
