DD national channel’s audience underwent a boost in 2016

Doordarshan, the Indian public broadcaster, has revealed its gross viewership for the year 2016. It amounts to 172 million weekly, compared to 133 million from the previous year and 155 million back in 2014.

The computation of the number of viewership is in rule with the New Consumer Classification System (NCCS), stated Rajyavardhan Rathore, the Minister of state for Information and Broadcasting. To organise and conduct public broadcasting services to inform, educate and entertain the public, is the main duty of the Corporation, according to the Section 12 of the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act 1990.

Following this, the national channel launched DD Kisan channel, dedicated to the special needs of farmers and viewers residing in rural areas. DD thus offers an array of programmes for its audience with a network of 23 Satellite channels which includes both National (six channels) and International (one channel) and 16 Regional Language satellite Services channels.
