CCTV- China upgrades its Digital Audio Workstation

Chinese state broadcaster, CCTV says multi-track mixing is an “extremely important” part of the production process when working on large events and variety shows.

Needing highly stable and reliable equipment that would allow long duration, high track-count multi-track recordings, CCTV turned to Merging Technologies’ Pyramix 10 digital audio workstation, equipped with Horus networked audio interfaces.

For a Chinese folk song competition held last year in Beijing, CCTV used Pyramix V10 systems for the first time and recorded 128 tracks for more than 12 uninterrupted hours.

This was followed by the deployment of Pyramix in September for the coverage of the opening ceremony of the 2016 G20 Hangzhou summit.

CCTV is also in the process of commissioning a new OB truck that is based on a total IP solution for video and audio. The audio part will feature a console from Lawo, while another Pyramix MassCore 128 will be used as its main recording system.
