Doordarshan-India to boost Sports Programming

Doordarshan’s DD Sports is all in for future partnerships with private producers. The public broadcaster is endeavouring at boosting its audience base, with new programming.

DD Sports already airs content revolving around indigenous sports of India and covers local sporting events and films on popular Indian sportsmen, including Olympians. The channel is in talks with different sports federations across the country to launch fresh content pertaining to different sporting events.

According to an interview conducted by Live Mint, an official at Doordarshan, revealed that: “Over the years, DD Sports has lost its relevance. There is a lot of private competition. We are undergoing a complete programming revamp now. We are looking to tie up with private producers where we can work out a revenue sharing model”.

Already working with All India Tennis Federation, All India Chess Federation, Table Tennis Federation of India and Wrestling Federation of India, the broadcaster is planning to collaborate with Athletics Federation of India and is in talks with Indian Hockey Federation.
