Exciting line-up of speakers for the 3rd ABU Media Summit on Climate Change and DRR

The preparations for the third edition of the Summit are in a full swing with the programme and speakers confirmed. It will be hosted by the Bangladesh TV and Bangladesh Betar on 10 and 11 May 2017 in Dhaka and opened by the Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Over 200 imminent experts and media practitioners from around the globe will join the Summit to develop practical projects to put media at the heart of education for climate change adaptation and disaster preparedness.

The Summit will adopt the Dhaka Declaration. This will be an Action Plan for ABU members to prepare their organisation and staff to fulfill their most important public mandate – to save lives and prepare audiences for future disasters through timely, quality programmes that reach all members of the society.

The Dhaka Declaration and Action Plan will be tabled at the Global Platform on DRR in Cancun, Mexico, 24 – 26 May, on behalf of the Media Stakeholder Group for DRR, which is led by ABU. This is a global campaign of world broadcasting unions to acknowledge at UN level media as a key player in dissemination of information and education on DRR.

An exciting part of the Dhaka Summit will be the Gala Awards on 11th May 2017, which will announce the winners of the 2017 ABU Awards on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction.
