Digitalisation of cable TV underway in Nepal

The Nepalese Government has taken a firm step toward modernisation by announcing at Kathmandu the decision to switch to a digital system within a year.

President of Federation of Nepal cable declared: “The digital system will help to know the exact number of television users in the country. In the existing analogue system, we cannot get the exact number of viewers as a line can be distributed to many users”.

Recent investigation has shown that there are more than six million users but only 2.5 million are paying the subscription fees. The government passed an amendment to their National Broadcasting Act 1993 in order to move forward with the digitalisation.
