ABU Receives More than 60 Entries for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Awards

As the last countdown begins for the 3rd ABU Media Summit on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction in Dhaka, Bangladesh, ABU has received more than 60 entries for the annual ABU Awards for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction.

This year, ABU received 36 entries for Television and 25entries for Radio. The competition awards 6 prizes in 4 categories for both Television and Radio.

Honouring the best Radio and Television programmes on climate change adaptation, disaster preparedness and disaster risk reduction, this competition aims to stimulate content producers across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond to highlight issues critical to the future of mankind through educating their audiences on best practices for climate change adaptation and disaster preparedness.

The winners will be announced on 11 May 2017 at a Gala Award Ceremony at Pan Pacific Sonargaon during the ABU Media Summit on Climate Change and DRR in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 10-12 May 2017.

The winning programmes will each be awarded a prize of USD 1,000.

The winners will be selected by a jury comprising of 5 distinguished media professionals appointed by the ABU Secretariat.

The 3rd ABU Media Summit on Climate Change and DRR under the theme “Information for All: Media Saving Lives” will bring together more than 200 media professionals, scientists, representatives of UN organisations, government agencies and NGOs involved in climate change mitigation, risk management and early warnings for disasters. 

In two days of discussions and exchange of experiences, they will develop strategies to work together with the media to prepare people for the dramatic effects of climate change and future increased natural hazards.

The Summit is hosted by Bangladesh TV and Bangladesh Betar.
