NHK Evolving Broadcast Technology 2020 – Open House 2017

The NHK Science and Technology Research Laboratories (STRL) will display its latest research advance to the general public at the STRL Open House 2017 from May 25 to May 28.

30 research achievements will be introduced at this year’s Open House with the focus on projects targeting 2020, the year of Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, and beyond.

A Smart Production section about application of artificial intelligence in program production will explain how incidents and accidents leading to news stories can quickly be found with this technology using big data culled from social media and other Internet text sources.

The exhibition of the computer-graphic Sports Graphic System for the real-time display of ball trajectories and  speeds  on  the  screen will give visitors a glimpse of the future of sports broadcasting through the demonstration of volleyball.

Other attractions will include screenings on a large 8K screen, lectures and symposiums. On Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 May, research staff will lead guided tours and there will also be events for children.
