DD FreeDish adds three entertainment channels

Sony Wah, Zee Anmol Cinema and 9X Jalwa are the latest TV channels to be added to the FreeDish direct-to-home (DTH) platform run by India’s public broadcaster Doordarshan (DD).

India’s sole free-to-air (FTA) satellite platform has also now implemented the Indian conditional access system (iCAS) to provide an enhanced viewing platform. Existing viewers will continue to receive 80 standard definition (SD) TV channels – including 22 from broadcaster Doordarshan – and 32 radio channels, but an iCAS-enabled authorised set-top box (STB) will be required to receive all new channels on FreeDish. The service remains available without subscription fee, however, viewers are required to register once they acquire a new STB.

FreeDish plans to increase its capacity to 250 channels over the next two years, following approval earlier this year from the Indian Government.
