New Team Elected for ABU News Group

The 2017 ABU News Group meeting in Singapore has elected a new team of office bearers.

The new News Group chairperson is Mr Abdul Muis Shefii, the Director of News of RTM-Malaysia. He succeeds to Mr Joao Francisco Pinto of TDM-Macau.

The two new Vice-Chairpersons are Mr Ryoji Ito of NHK-Japan and Mr Ibrahim Khaleel of PSM-Maldives. The new team was elected for a three-year term. 

The election of the new team took place during the News Group meeting held this week in Singapore and was hosted by Mediacorp.  The meeting brought together top decision makers from 30 out of the 34 members of Asiavision (AVN). AVN is the daily TV news exchange program which is now conducted solely via the online platform.

This annual gathering reviews the activities and operations of AVN as well as discusses views and actions to take the AVN forward. Members presented their case studies and other presentations focused on mobile journalism and fake news.

A total of 75 delegates attended the News Group meeting.
