Georgică Severin is the new Head of Radio Romania

On September 27, 2017, Georgică Severin has been appointed by the Romanian Parliament as President Director General of Radio Romania, the Romanian Radio Public Broadcaster.

Since April 2017 Georgică Severin was the Interim President Director General of Radio Romania. He has previously served as a Senator in the Romanian Parliament from 2008 to 2016. During his mandate he has held the position of President of Culture and Media Committee (from 2012 to 2016) and he has been a member of the Special Committee for the Evaluation of Democracy and Rule of Law (from 2015 to 2016). He has equally been a member of the Culture, Arts and Mass Information Means (from 2008 to 2012), of the Foreign Policy Committee (from 2008 to 2012) and of the Legal Matters, Appointments, Discipline, Immunities and Validations Committee (in 2012).

From 2009 to 2012 he has been a member of the Romanian Delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie. He has also been president of Romania – Switzerland Parliamentary Friendship Group. From 1999 to 2008 he has been Owner of the QED Written Press and Media Group.

Georgică Severin has graduated from the Faculty of History and Philosophy, University of Bucharest, in 1984. He has earned two postgraduate specializations: in Security and Good Governance from the National Defence College, in 2014, and in Foreign Affairs and Diplomacy from the Romanian Diplomatic Institute, in 2016.
