GA 2017: ABU contributes to the progress of Asia and a better world, the Chinese Vice Premier said at the opening of the 54th General Assembly this morning in Chengdu

Ms  Liu Yandong, Vice Premier of the People’s Republic of China believes that the role of media is to improve the well-being of mankind and to encourage a harmonious co-existence among various civilisations.

In her opening speech of the ABU 54th General Assembly last week in Chengdu, Ms Yandong expressed her gratitude to the ABU which she said is the most influential broadcasting organisation in the Asia-Pacific organisation.

Other speakers included Mr Nie Chenxi, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, Minister of State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) and President of China Central Television. Mr Yin Li, Governor of Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, the ABU President, Mr Ko Dae-young and the ABU Secretary General, Dr Javad Mottaghi also spoke at the ceremony.

Nearly 650 delegates from 59 countries representing 163 organisations are participating in the ABU meetings in Chengdu. Directors of ABU Programming, Sports, Technical and News departments presented their report of all their activities run during the last 12 months.

Some members also presented the latest developments achieved recently by their respective organisations. The ABU Vice President, Ms Supriya Sahu announced that Doordarshan will host the 2nd edition of the ABU International Dance Festival in 2019 in India.
