Pakistan TV mulls DTH launch plans

State broadcaster Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) has been told by the Government to prepare for the launch of direct-to-home (DTH) television services.

Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage, Marriyum Aurangzeb, has directed the PTV to initiate work immediately to provide “state of the art, affordable, uninterrupted and quality services”.

Plans to launch a DTH service in Pakistan are part of the policy of the present PML-N Government to change the digital landscape of the country which also includes the introduction of 4G and 5G mobile technology, she added.

Detailed proposals for the introduction of DTH services are expected from PTV within seven days. Aurangzeb also called for the best available technology for the provision of high quality services on a par with international platforms, with the “utmost consideration” given to ensuring transparency in the entire process.
