KBS – Korea Wins Three Asian Television Awards

KBS has continued to showcase its strong presence at the Asian Television Awards 2017. KBS TV1 documentary UHD UNESCO World Heritage “The Time Capsule of Nature” was named Best Natural History/ Wildlife Programme at this year’s Asian Television Awards ceremony on November 30, 2017 at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Also, KBS TV2 drama Love in the Moonlight was announced Best Drama Series at the Asian Television Awards Gala on December 1, 2017. And during the awards ceremony, KBS was honored with a Highly Recommended award in the Terrestrial Broadcaster of the Year category.

UHD UNESCO World Heritage “The Time Capsule of Nature” is an eight-part documentary series that explores the rich traditions and beauties of natural heritages of Korea and its first part, the Best Natural History/ Wildlife Programme of this year’s Asian Television Awards, introduces Changdeokgung Palace, one of the royal heritage sites in Seoul. The documentary has also been recognized for its sophisticated shooting technologies. VR Hyper Time Lapse and Matrix 360 Degree used in the production helped create remarkable photography.

Love in the Moonlight is a fictional historical drama set in the 19th century Joseon Dynasty based on the novel Moonlight Drawn by Clouds. The series depicts a love story of Crown Prince Lee Yeong (Park Bo Gum), a rebel prince who aspires for change in his community, and Ra-On(Kim Yoo Jung), an ordinary girl that will do everything even as far as pretending to be a man just to find her mother. Broadcast via KBS TV2 from August to October 2016, the 18 part series was highly successful achieving an average viewer rating of 22.5%. In April this year, Love in the Moonlight was recognized with Platinum Remi at the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival. Also, the drama won Top Excellence Award for Hallyu Drama at the 12th Seoul International Drama Awards(SIDA) held on September 7, 2017 at KBS Hall.

Launched in 1996, the Asian Television Awards is an annual celebration of the Asian TV industry, recognizing excellence in programming, production and performance. A total of 1,350 entries from 20 countries took part in this year’s competition.

The Asian Television Awards last year had honored the phenomenally popular romantic drama of KBS, Descendants of the Sun, with the Best Drama Series.
