ABU Builds Coalition for Sustainable Future of the Pacific Nations

Countdown to the first ABU mega event of 2018 – register now @ 2018 ABU CCDRR & PMPC

The small resort island Denarau in Fiji prepares to welcome the delegates of one of the most important ABU events of the year – the partnership and capacity – building platform MEDIA SOLUTIONS FOR SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.

The platform combines two well established ABU annual events –  4th Media Summit on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and 9th Pacific Media Partnership Conference in Fiji.

MEDIA SOLUTIONS FOR SUSTAINABLE FUTURE is hosted by the Government of Fiji and ABU members Fiji Broadcasting Corporation and Fiji TV on  5 – 7 February 2018 at Sheraton Fiji Resort in Nadi.

4th Media Summit on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction

Climate change is undoubtedly the greatest challenge faced by humankind today.  Its effects are felt across the globe and, for small Pacific island nations, the climate stakes are higher than ever. Rising sea levels and more intense tropical cyclones not only jeopardise food and water security for citizens, but are a real threat to the very existence of some countries. The displacement of the population and even the possible disappearance of currently inhabited islands, through sea level rises, are both on the agenda.

The Media Summit will bring together around 150 representatives of media, government disaster management agencies and meteorological services, international organisations, NGOs and community leaders to explore and amplify broadcast media actions to advance the global agenda set by the Paris Treaty on Climate Change and the Sendai Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction.  The Summit will explore the potential to engage the unparalleled audience reach of the broadcast media to provide Climate Change and DRR literacy and help nations to build knowledgeable, resilient communities that are able to adapt and prosper in the future. Key part of it is the Summit Partnership Dialogue, which will develop practical programmes of cooperation between different stakeholders in the Climate Action and DRR process.

An exciting part of the ABU Media Summit on CCDRR will be the Gala Awards on 6 February 2018, which will announce the winners of the 2018 ABU Awards on Climate Change and DRR.

Please send your entries for the radio and TV categories to fijicontest@abu.org.my. The deadline for submitting your programmes had been extended from 15 to 31 January 2018.

9th Pacific Media Partnership Conference

The 9th meeting of the Pacific Media Partnership will ramp up the vital work of addressing the major media issues for broadcasters, new media and partners in the Pacific Islands region in a co-operative and practical manner.

These key issues that broadcasters in the region have identified will include:

  • Digital transformation: tailoring solutions for all broadcasters, large and small.
  • Content development on a budget: making and sharing program content efficiently and effectively.
  • Shattering the glass barrier: how broadcasters can move beyond the TV screen to use mobile technologies and social media to engage audiences as producers and consumers.
  • Masterclass workshops on using mobile technologies in news, documentaries and other story telling – how we can do it and why.

Please REGISTER for the events at 2018 ABU CCDRR & PMPC  and book your accommodation early at ABU CCDRR & PMPC 2018  to avail of the special rates negotiated by our hosts.

The special rates will only be available until 5pm (Fijian time), 17 January 2018 and is subject to availability.
