SBS wins TV ratings for Korea’s end of year awards extravaganza

South Korea’s SBS has won the ratings battle for its end of year award ceremony, which was head-to-head with that of fellow broadcaster MBC on 30 December 2017.

The SBS Entertainment Awards 2017 recorded 13.1% of the TV audience during the first half of the show, and 13.8% for the second half, according to data from Nielsen Korea. This compares to 8.8% and 7.3% gained by the 2017 MBC Drama Awards.

SBS’ grand award for 2017 went to Lee Sun Mi, Ji In Sook, Lee Ok Jin and Im Yeo Soon, for their performances as four mothers on My Ugly Duckling. The show won a total of six awards, while Running Man claimed four others.

MBC’s grand prize went to Kim Sang Joong (pictured) for his role as Amogae (Nameless One) in the drama Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People. The show scooped a total of nine awards, including Drama of the Year and Best Scriptwriter of the Year.
