ABU New Media Workshop Shines a Spotlight on Tech-Enabled Content

The 2nd ABU New Media Workshop was successfully held in Kuala Lumpur from 23-25 January with 32 participants from 10 ABU member organisations. In a first-of-its-kind organised by ABU Programme Department, this 3-day regional workshop focused on emerging new digital and tech-enabled content with a special focus on 360 and VR storytelling.

Divided into 6 sessions, participants explored the latest new media trends including innovative formats of storytelling and content creation with practical exercises on transmedia storytelling and 360 degree content making. Participants also learned how to deliver their content to new age audiences through an engaging panel discussion in addition to a presentation on legal issues related to digital content.

The workshop was facilitated by Keiko Bang, CEO and Founder of Bang Media and Eduard Chizhikov, Head of RT360 at Russia Today TV. They were supported by Chris Gomez, Vice President, XR Alliance and VRAR Association and Seemantani Sharma, ABU’s Legal and IP Officer as guest speakers. The main target audience for the new media workshop was online and digital content creators in ABU member organisations.

Participating ABU organisations include VOV-Vietnam, MRTV-Myanmar, Radio Plus-Mauritius, NHK-Japan, Thai PBS-Thailand, NBT-Thailand, TDM-Macau, RTM-Malaysia, Astro-Malaysia and iM4U-Malaysia. In addition, Malaysian Institute of Broadcasting and Information Tun Abdul Razak (IPPTAR) also participated in the workshop.
