The ABU Media Summit on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction and PMPC 2018

During the joint opening ceremony on Monday 5 February at the 4th ABU Media Summit on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction and the 9th Pacific Media Partnership Conference, the keynote address will be delivered by Hon. Frank Bainimarama, Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji in Nadi. He is also the President of COP23.

The media summit will run over two days and will comprise of seven sessions. The theme of Session 1 is “Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals: Challenges and Successes. A panel discussion will provide an overview of the global and regional implementation of the Paris Treaty on Climate Change and Sendai Framework for DRR for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. Special focus will be put on the results and recommendations of the Bonn COP23 and Cancun Global Platform on DRR. Other sessions include:

Session 2: Climate Change and Society

Session 3: Serving the People – Science for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation of DRR

Session 4: Communicating Climate Change- Challenges and Solutions

Session 5: Walking the Last Mile

Session 6: Climate Action for the Future – Youth Participation and Engagement, and

Session 7: Information, Education, Communication – Building the Toolbox of the Knowledgeable Society.
