Call for entries now open: JAPAN PRIZE 2018- International Contest for Educational Media


NHK calls for entries of innovative contents with educational value.

The Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) is accepting entries for the JAPAN PRIZE 2018 International Contest for Educational Media from April 1 – June 30, 2018.

The JAPAN PRIZE has focused solely on contents with educational aims since its establishment in 1965. In 2017, 108 titles among 309 in total were submitted from Asian countries and regions, making Asia the largest contributor of entries. Last year’s shortlisted works include “Magical Girl Choi Ri” from EBS and “Way to School” from VTV. The Best Proposal winner was a producer from Myanmar.

“Educational contents are becoming more diverse both in subjects and styles,” says Mizuto Tanaka, the Secretary General of the JAPAN PRIZE. “We hope that more ABU members will join us to contribute voices from Asia and to inspire the future of learning.”

Productions are accepted in the following divisions:

Audiovisual Division

  • Pre-school/Primary/Youth/Lifelong Learning Categories (TV program, film, video)
  • Creative Frontier Category (website, game, application software, cross-media content)

TV Proposal Division

  • Grants for educational TV program proposals*
  • Countries and regions which are NOT eligible for this Division are listed on our website.
