Sports Conference, Jakarta, May 2018
The 62nd ABU Sports Group Conference and Associated Meetings in Jakarta, Indonesia ended on a high note. The conference (May 7 – 9, 2018) was described by members and delegates as not only fruitful and informative, but timely and relevant, with the 18th Asian Games only a few months away.
The conference saw over fifty delegates, majority of them sports broadcasters and relevant partners representing the industry. Delegates heard renewed calls for engagement and involvement with the ABU Sports. It was revealed that acquiring rights to premium sports and sporting events, such as the Asian Games still remain a major challenge.
The conference featured a comprehensive presentation on the up-coming Asian Games by the Broadcast Director of the up-coming Asian Games Organising Committee, INASGOC. The 18th Asian Games Jakarta Palembang 2018, the largest and most prestigious multi-sporting event in Asia will take place from August 18 – September 2, 2018.
The ABU Sports made presentation on many of its on-going activities and plans. The ABU Sports Director Cai Yanjiang, highlighted the production and transmission initiative, the content sharing platform and training. He said it is imperative for members and the ABU Sports to work together for the union to be more effective and efficient to serve members.
Delegates were also informed of ABU’s involvement in the distribution of several events in the recent months including PyeongChang Winter Olympics and the Commonwealth Games.
The event Chaired by the ABU Sports Group Chairperson, Mr Jiang Heping, was attended by the President Director of LPP Televisi Republik Indonesia, TVRI Mr Helmy Yahya, and the Secretary General of the ABU Dr Javad Mottaghi. The conference hosted by the TVRI ended with a excursion to the main venues of the 2018 Asian Games.
The 63rd Sports Group Conference and Associated Meetings will take place from Oct 30-Sept 1, 2018 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan during the ABU General Assembly.
