Final preparations for RadioAsia and Media2020

Last minute registrations and hotel bookings are still available as final preparations are made for this year’s ABU RadioAsia and Media2020 conferences in Kazakhstan.

The two major broadcasting events – plus the ABU Radio Song Festival – will be hosted in the country’s capital, Astana, from 10 to 12 July 2018.

This is the first time all three events have been staged together in Central Asia and the first such global media event hosted by Kazmedia, Kazakhstan’s leading-edge national media hub.

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union is expecting a good turnout for the three events, which in previous years have individually attracted hundreds of delegates from the Asia-Pacific, around the world and from the host nation to discuss major issues facing the radio, television and online media industries.

RadioAsia is the Asia-Pacific’s major radio content event and this year, titled “Radio – Unity and Diversity” it will examine the challenges from a number of perspectives to engage everyone involved in radio production and dissemination.

ABU Head of Radio and Online Olya Booyar says the conference will have sessions that speak directly to the needs of all industry professionals, whether they are leading an organisation or working directly in areas such as news and content production, engineering, online technologies, new media, audience relations, media regulation, academia or government.

Now in its fourth iteration, the Media2020 series aims to prepare broadcasters across all platforms for the challenges they will need to confront by 2020 and beyond.

ABU Secretary General Dr Javad Mottaghi says that, as 2020 draws closer, this year’s conference will look in greater detail at where broadcasting is halfway towards the third decade of the 21st Century.

Titled “Looking beyond the horizon”, this year’s conference will examine today’s broadcasting from three perspectives: Are digital media developing in the way predicted earlier in the Second Digital Age? What has proved successful and what is failing? What is coming over the horizon to hit as we get closer to 2020?

The Media2020 series is co-organised by the ABU and Radio Romania.

In-between the two conferences, some of the Asia-Pacific’s best and brightest young unsigned musical talent will be in Astana to take part the gala performance of this year’s ABU Radio Song Festival.

Accommodation for delegates is at the contemporary Hilton Garden Inn Astana and conference events will take place both there and at the neighbouring state-of-the-art Kazmedia Center.

Last minute registration is still open. More information and online registration forms are available here
