ABU Sports successfully carries out test delivery of Internet-based Live Signal of Asian Games

In what is being described as a successful initiative and a potential partnership, the ABU Sports and Alibaba Cloud delivered an Internet-based live signal of the 18th Asian Games to broadcasters.

The partnership, the first of its kind for ABU Sports, is carried out to test the viability as an option to satellite feed delivery. ABU Sports Director Cai Yanjiang said “the ABU and Alibaba Cloud are looking at cost effective digital solutions for transmission and broadcasting directly.” He said global audiences will benefit from this cooperation during such sports events.

The General Manager of Global Strategic Accounts and Sports Business Unit for Alibaba Cloud, Joey Tan, said “in the past, images and sounds of the games were transmitted via satellite, which meant only households equipped with a satellite TV could view the games.”

Alibaba Cloud’s solution is feeding test images and sounds from the international broadcast center in Jakarta to ABU Sports’ members. The videos are processed and transmitted through its cloud platform to broadcasters in the region. ABU Sports is producing 5+2 Channel Multi-feed.

The 18th Asian Games Jakarta Palembang 2018 will conclude with the closing ceremony on Sunday, September 2, 2018.
