ABU General Assembly Concludes in Ashgabat

The ABU’s 55th General Assembly and Associated Meetings 2018 was successfully held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan from 30 September – 5 October 2018, hosted by TVTM Turkmenistan. Nearly 550 delegates from 60 countries representing numerous organisations participated in the ABU GA and associated meetings.

Mr Ryochi Ueda ABU President, 
Ms Supriya Sahu, ABU Vice President, and ABU Secretary-General Dr Javad Mottaghi, met with His Excellency the President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in a positive and friendly meeting in the capital. 

The 55th ABU General Assembly concluded with the unanimous election of Mr Ryoichi Ueda, President of NHK-Japan as the new ABU President with immediate effect and newly-elected Mr Ibrahim Eren, Director General, TRT – Turkey, taking the role of new Vice-president.

ABU members RTA, Afghanistan, Doordarshan India, IRIB IRAN, TRT Turkey, TDM Macao and RTHK -Hong Kong have been re-elected for new three year terms to the Administrative Council. Also, Kyrgyzstan’s public broadcaster was  elected as new member to the Administrative Council for three years from January 2019 .
