The Sarawak government is committed to turn the state’s capital into a disabled-friendly city as Kuching will host the World Para Swimming Championship in July next year. Sarawak Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said all the industry players must work together to upgrade facilities to make them accessible for disabled people. He urged the industry players to also upgrade facilities at restaurants, eateries, on public transportation services, hotels and tourist spots, among other things.

The event, he said, which runs from July 29 to Aug 4 at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre here, is expected to gather 800 athletes from 80 countries accompanied by another 400 officials. The championship aims to become a benchmark by providing the best facilities and support for the para swimmers.

He said the website will serve to develop and deliver information to participants and keep them informed about the prestigious event.

The online platform was also set up to promote the tourism sector in Sarawak.
