Regional Workshop on DRM Digital Radio Implementation and Rollout, 26 – 27 November 2018, Kuala Lumpur

The ABU in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) and the Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) Consortium organised the DRM Digital Radio Implementation and Rollout Workshop from the 26 – 27 November 2018 at the Melia Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

The workshop provided participants a clear understanding of the DRM digital radio broadcasting services, its technology and features, planning methods, step-by-step implementation examples and the various solutions and strategies available for anyone planning to move from analogue to a digital radio system from planning to full-scale countrywide rollout. How to bring crystal clear sound to the wider audience on all available radio broadcasting bands.

This two-day workshop shared expert knowledge and up to date information on the current status of digital terrestrial radio broadcasting, issues & challenges faced by the industry, as well as sharing some of the case studies and experiences in transition from analogue to digital radio from the region and beyond.

The workshop covered areas such as:

  • Introduction to DRM and Industry Update
  • DRM Features, Benefits and Solutions for Radio Broadcasters
  • DRM Digital Radio – Regulatory, Policy, Planning, Design, Implementation and Rollout
  • Planning Our Transition from Analogue to Digital Radio – AM and FM bands
  • DRM Transmitters – Features, Advantages and Choosing the Right One
  • DRM Receivers: Updates, Challenges and Opportunities
  • Implementation Examples and Case-studies

Forty-eight participants including secretariat from fifteen organisations (including eight ABU members) in nine countries attended the workshop.
