Thailand approves plan to switch off 2G on Oct 31

The regulator has accepted a proposal from Thailand’s three major operators – AIS, Dtac and True Move – to shut down 2G services at the end of October, the Bangkok Post reported.

In addition, the NBTC board has agreed with the proposal to launch a media campaign to inform 2G users about the planned switch off.

As part of the process, mobile operators will now be required to submit their plans to terminate their existing 2G services. Importers and suppliers will also be asked to stop bringing in new 2G equipment.
