Future of the Media is Digital

If the future of the media is digital, then Pacific journalists and broadcast executives learned two major aspects of the craft at the Pacific Media Partnership Conference in Apia this week.

Malaysian media entrepreneur Kartini Ariffin held a full day workshop on the topic, ‘How to improve your broadcasters reach using Facebook Live’.

Ms Ariffin is well-known in Malaysian media after 10 years hosting 3R (Respek, Relaks, Respon), a TV show that aimed at empowering young women. After a 10-year career in radio, Ms Ariffin co-founded Dbilique, a personality-driven digital channel in Malaysia.

Participants practiced broadcasting over Facebook Live, a skill they plan to take back to their broadcasters.

Another second full-day workshop focused on teaching Mojo or mobile journalism – shooting and editing news stories on their smartphones.

Trainer Corinne Podger, from the Australian-based Digital Skills Agency taught a skill many participants were surprised to find they could learn in just a single day.
