Getting The Message Across on Climate Change-ABU links African, Asian and Pacific Journalists

Journalists from 16 countries across Sub- Sahara Africa, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands are gathering in Kuala Lumpur for the latest ABU workshop on Climate Change. This particular chapter of the “Getting the Message Across” workshop series is funded by Malaysia Funds in Trust and UNESCO  and will be held between October 7 and 12 with participants from both continents exchanging experiences of Climate Change reporting and Disaster Risk Reduction initiatives.

This unique “Twinning Workshop” will have contributors from Geneva, UK, Japan, Tanzania and Malaysia offering knowledge and context to the current momentum within the media to engage their audiences in environmental issues. Theoretical presentations and discussions will be supplemented by practical location work that will see the participants produce features  and items for their various outlets covering conservation, protection, adaptation and risk reduction stories.

Following recent workshops in Fiji and Samoa, this will be the first opportunity for our fellow African broadcasters and media practitioners to interact and cooperate with their Asian counterparts in an attempt to establish a strong South by South network and enhance the quality and quantity of environmental coverage throughout the Southern Hemisphere.
