A regional workshop on DRM Digital Radio Implementation and Rollout was recently held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The 2-day event kicked off on 9^th October. About thirty-five participants from broadcasters and regulators in the Asia-Pacific Region took part in the workshop.

The workshop provided broadcasters, regulators, governments and other stakeholders with a clear understanding of the DRM digital radio broadcasting services, its technology, features and implementation methods. The workshop presented on topics such as network planning methods, step-by-step implementation examples for national DRM rollout both in AM and FM bands. The workshop offered information to broadcasters on planning a successful move from analogue to a digital radio system for a full-scale countrywide rollout. 

This year, more emphasis is on the local coverage using the FM band with DRM including a look at infrastructure setup and cost considerations. The two-day workshop will share expert knowledge and up to date information with case-studies from Indonesia, Russia, South Africa, India and the latest DRM developments around the world. The workshop included a live demonstration on setting up a DRM content server and configuring a transmission system as a hands-on exercise.

The workshop was organized by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) in partnership with the Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) Consortium.
