What is ABU KIDS?

ABU KIDS is an annual meeting on children program where video clips are shared among participating members and will be used in their broadcast for free. It also includes capacity building workshop for children content makers.

ABU Kids 2023 Held in Tokyo

NHK-Japan recently played host to a significant meeting of the ABU KIDS initiative in Tokyo, aligning this event with the prestigious Japan Prize festival. This strategic convergence was aimed at enhancing collaboration and innovation in children’s media content.

The meeting saw key regional players in children’s media come together, with MNB-Mongolia, TVRI-Indonesia, and Thai PBS-Thailand attending in person, and RTM-Malaysia and VTV-Vietnam participating online. This diverse representation underscored the initiative’s broad impact across the region.

Delegates were treated to a tour of the NHK Studio prior to the meeting, providing them with insights into advanced broadcasting practices. The meeting itself coincided with the celebration of the Japan Prize’s 50th anniversary, a move designed to foster collaboration and breathe new life into the ABU KIDS initiative.

Attendees praised the organization of the event, commending the JAPAN PRIZE Secretariat for their hospitality and the seamless execution of the meeting. The convergence of the ABU KIDS meeting with the Japan Prize week added a celebratory and commemorative touch, amplifying its significance.

The meeting ended on a hopeful note, with delegates optimistic about the future of the ABU KIDS initiative under NHK’s leadership and in partnership with the Japan Prize. The focus is now on strengthening the initiative through enhanced cooperation, co-productions, and program exchanges, thereby enriching children’s programming across the region.
