The 3rd edition of the annual ABU New Media Workshop will explore interactive content and its impact on digital audiences. With the theme Interactive Storytelling: Building Engaging Digital Narratives, the workshop will focus on the tools and techniques of creating successful interactive content that appeal to audiences. 

Why participate?

At the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to:

  • familiarise themselves with new and emerging interactive digital content such as interactive documentaries, reality shows and VR films
  • explore the world of interactive storytelling across a number of digital platforms
  • explore how to create interactive content using specialised applications such as Fader

Who’s it for?

The main target audience for the ABU New Media Workshop is online and digital content creators at ABU member broadcasters. TV producers and reporters with experience in digital content creation will also benefit from this workshop.

It is open only to ABU members.

ABU members are invited and encouraged to nominate colleagues (who work as digital content creators in their organisations) for the workshop.

Content Outline

Delivered over 3 days with a series of presentations and hands-on exercises, the workshop programme is developed to cover the following topics:

  • Interactive Storytelling
  • Creating 360 and VR Content
  • Introduction to Fader
  • Interactive Content

Facilitators


The workshop will be led by two expert speakers from Germany and New Zealand.


Alexander Plaum

DW (Germany)

Alex is an online editor, concept creator, and media consultant with a keen interest in IT, pop culture, and politics. Before joining DW ReCo as an innovation manager, Alex worked for a number of companies and institutions including O’Reilly, Access, Macromedia Akademie, and INTERACTIVE Festival. Alex holds an M.A. in English language literature, sociology, and political science.      

                                                               

  Amie Mills
NZ On Air (New Zealand)



Amie’s passion is interactive and multi-platform storytelling. She has worked on and off at TVNZ since 2013; originally as a Senior Digital Producer then Digital Creative Director within TVNZ’s Blacksand Marketing team. She has launched multiple, award-winning transmedia campaigns that utilised games, websites and native apps to extend story worlds and promote TV and video content.

Location

The workshop will be held in Macau, China kindly hosted by TDM.
