We are pleased to announce that the ABU with the support of HBF (Hoso Bunka Foundation) has organised a “Regional Workshop on the Role of Broadcast Media in Disaster Mitigation and Management”, from the 3-5 September 2014 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This 3-day workshop will inform, sensitise and create awareness among broadcaster, other media stakeholders and national disaster management organisations in the region, on the role of media and its importance in disaster mitigation and management efforts. It will provide emphasis and demonstrate the importance of coordination and working together, among all stakeholders, through the use of proven models and Standard Operational Procedures applicable to different types of disaster situations. Experienced experts will educate and share knowledge on how to plan, deploy and utilise the latest tools and technologies to effectively communicate and inform the public in pre, during and post disaster situations. It will particularly aim to develop and improve the cooperation and coordination process among stakeholders with the use of enhanced SOPs and information guidelines.

Please nominate suitably qualified and experienced colleagues who are involved at decision-making capacities or senior management level. For your participants, your organisation will have to bear all expenses. Participation in the workshop is free of charge (no registration fees).
ACCOMMODATION
The workshop will take place at Hotel Capitol Kuala Lumpur, and we have made arrangements for participants to stay here at the special rate of MYR 220.00 (approx. USD70.00) per night inclusive of breakfast. You will also have to pay a meeting package of MYR 90.00 (approx. USD29.00) per day inclusive of lunch and two tea breaks, during the workshop days.
As the number of rooms is limited early registration is advised.
