REGIONAL WORKSHOP ON ENGINEERING FUNDAMENTALS FOR BROADCASTERS

30 Nov – 4 Dec 2015, Kuala Lumpur

We are pleased to announce the ABU-AIBD “Regional Workshop on Engineering Fundamentals for Broadcasters”, from the 30 Nov – 4 Dec 2015 in Kuala Lumpur.

Broadcast Technology has evolved many folds over the past two decades and its effects are visible at every level of the broadcast value chain. The major changes we have seen can be summarised as; the move from analogue to digital equipment, integration and use of IT, the move from SD to HD and UHD, and the incorporation of IP platforms. In the midst of all these changes it is the young engineers who are struggling to learn and grasp these new systems without having much guidance on the much necessary engineering basics of handling audio & video systems and networks. This 5-day training workshop will address some of these selected topics focusing on the fundamentals of audio and video systems, engineering techniques and applications to provide a guided approach for the young and upcoming engineers to understand the basics that are necessary to help them move forward.

Aims

The workshop aims to provide basic engineering fundamentals for broadcast engineers who are at the beginning of their careers. The workshop facilitates participants to learn about the current trends and advancements in broadcast technologies. It will also focus on fundamentals of audio and video systems, engineering techniques and applications. The knowledge gained would help participants to embrace and handle broadcast technologies with confidence.

Objectives
At the end of the workshop the participants will be able to explain and apply in their work:
• Basics of Audio and Video
• Concepts of ADC and signal processing in the media value chain
• Interoperability and QoE
• Converged IT Environment
• Radio and TV transmissions and other forms of delivery
• New Media Platforms

Profile of Participants
• Broadcast Engineers/technicians, especially young engineers who have had some exposure to audio and video systems.
• At least five years of experience in radio and television engineering as an essential condition
• Ability to understand, speak and write in English fluently.
