2012-04-17 to 2012-04-23
April 17, 2012

As Turkish Radio and Television – TRT; we have been celebrating ‘23rd April International Children’s Festival’ since 1979 at different cities in Turkey. This year, 34th edition of the festival has been planned to be carried out in Konya, central Turkey, to share our excitement and joy with all the children from different countries, to strengthen the friendship and love between world’s children and finally to prepare them for a future where the world peace will effect the world.

TRT aims to display its desire to celebrate 23rd April International Children’s Festival, in which we wish to collaborate with ABU, in terms of promoting this through all ABU members. We believe, 34th edition of the festival will be much more comprehensively and wide-reaching than ever before. We reshaped and transferred our festival to an international platform which let us to collaborate with many other ABU members. In order to achieve this goal, we especially would like to have the support of ABU on the side of this dedicated festival for children.

The mentioned event is the first and only Children’s Festival in the world, given to world’s children by the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. 27000 children and 5000 adults from 100 different countries have been hosted by our organization for 33 years.

TRT would like to invite about 40 countries’ children to participate International Children’s Festival in Turkey with a performing team consisting 8 to 10 children at the age of 11 to 13 with their 1 or 2 adult team leaders. They will perform their folkloric or any other free style of dance performances they want to, during the festival’s gala show. TRT believes some of those 40 countries will be among the ABU members.

Starting from 2012, we also would like our participating broadcasters to prepare a short documentary item about their country and culture. The documentary items will be the central point of international exchange with broadcasters and ABU members. There will be different themes for every year and the subject of 2012 is “Food Culture”. Duration of the documentaries should be about three minutes. TRT will air all the documentaries and share its experience through such a valuable opportunity of gathering about 40 different countries’ children and their cultural heritage via their own documentary items that will carry the children’s world into the words of children’s cultural point of view. Documentary items will be available for all of our contributors to share and to air in their own countries.

  • TRT will cover the expenses of accommodation, transfers from and to airport, transportation in Turkey and all the meals.
  • TRT will organize an exchange meeting in Turkey during the festival week for one day.
  • Every participating broadcaster can take all the documentary items unlimited and for free.
  • TRT will air all the items and the gala show and provide the transmission via its satellite for free and also, proposes to cover transmission fee of ABU if any broadcaster wants to air the show.
