The Pacific Media Partnership Summit 2013 will be held on 19 September in Vanuatu with the theme “Broadcasting for Development”. The summit will be preceded by several workshops and meetings. The summit is jointly organised by the ABU and the Pacific Media Partnership in collaboration with Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation (VBTC) and our partners and supporters.
It is increasingly recognized that broadcasting plays a major and important role in development – as a widespread tool of information transfer, as a method to improve governance, as an important economic sector in its own right and as a potential access point to new information and communications technologies. This is more profound in developing countries like the
Pacific Island Nations, where if effectively used and streamlined for developmental activities can work as an essential tool in improving the lives the people.

The PMP event provides a platform for the broadcasters in the Pacific to share knowledge and expertise to improve and promote broadcasting in the region.
How to effectively address different areas of the community, using specific programming like news, sports and other disciplines. Looking at how the media landscape is changing with the integration of new media concepts to reach out to wider audiences across borders, smaller
and scattered nations like the Pacific Islands can benefit from this approach. The event will help expose the broadcasters and
other media professionals to new concepts and tools that can enhance their capacity in various aspects of broadcasting.
