Purpose and Function: The Copyright Committee (now called the Intellectual Property & Legal Committee) was founded in 1994 in the wake of the digital era to protect and advance the rights and interests of broadcasters in the various international negotiations on copyright issues that are conducted in forums like the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

54th ABU General Assembly
The 54th ABU General Assembly is tentatively scheduled to take place from 30th October to 4th November, 2017 in Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

35th Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights
The 35th SCCR is scheduled to take place from 13th November to 17th November, 2017 at the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The deliberations of the Proposed Treaty for the Protection of Broadcasting Organizations will take place during the course of one week. The draft agenda is yet to be released.

2nd ABU Intellectual Property & Legal Committee
The 2nd ABU Intellectual Property & Legal Committee will take place on February 26th and February 27th, 2018 in Tehran, Iran. It will be hosted by ABU’s full member, IRIB Iran.
