Asiavision gears up for the 5th Global News Forum
Asiavision (AVN) is in full swing making final preparations for the 5th Edition of the Global News Forum (GNF), to be held in Istanbul, Turkey from July 29-31. This year’s Forum will focus on discussions and presentations around the theme of “Trust and Truth in Journalism” and is hosted by Television Radio Turkey (TRT).
“The fast-changing nature of the media landscape prompted the decision to make the Global News Forum an annual event”, said Dr Javad Mottaghi, ABU, Secretary General. “Across the globe, people are witnessing grave threats to humanity – the call for the Media to have a strong sense of social responsibility and to offer true, accurate and objective reports has never been more critical or more compelling,” he said.
The Global News Forum will feature case studies on the Khashoggi Killing, the Christchurch Massacare, along with panel sessions on the power and peril of global journalism and media responsibilites in light of these two news events. Other panels and sessions include a presentation on the benefits of 5G technology, journalism and humanitarianism, building trust with audiences in shifting times, and the role of public broadcasters in a Fake News age.
This year’s GNF will be preceded by AVN’s News Group Meeting, where top policy makers from Members will deliberate on issues facing broadcasters in the Media 3.0 Era. The winners of the first Asiavision Awards will be announced at the News Group’s Closed Session.
